Te Reo Kori

Today we had fun learning the Maori names of fruit in P.E. We played Hua rakau-huamata (Fruit Salad).
It’s a game where we pair up and sit down on the ground opposite each other.
Each pair is given a fruit name in Te Reo Maori eg Panana (banana) or Ropere (strawberry)

When the teacher calls out your fruit you jump up and race over the legs  and all the way back to your place.

These are the fruits in Maori.

Aporo----Apple
Panana----Banana
Arani----Orange
Pititi----Peach
Ropere----Strawberry
Pea----Pear
Karepe----Grape
Merengi----Melon
Huakiwi----Kiwifruit
Watamerengi----Watermelon

  1. Wow I have played fruit salad lots of times but never using Maori names for the fruit. What a great idea to use the reo. Well done.
